Targeting teen males, this class builds media literacy by teaching how to decode popular media messages related to masculinity. Ads geared toward men focus on stereotypical traits of what a “real man” is as loud, forceful, and uncompromising. Students redefine what it means to be a man by creating bold messages of healthy masculinity directed at boys and men their own age. The class culminates in outreach to local and statewide media outlets for publication of their final work.
