When I am an Elder is a youth created and led media campaign that challenges communities to stop the cycle of violence. It was based on a poem written by a Bethel Teens Acting Against Violence (TAAV) member in 2001, which imagined a world without violence for future generations. Television spots and public service announcements, as well as the voices of other youth, from Bethel, Barrow, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan and Minto, turned this poem into powerful tool against violence.
